Why Photos Matter For Moms
My mom and dad were visiting this last week and my mom wouldn’t let me take her photo. At 75 years old, I know she won’t be around forever and my heart hurt thinking that I may not have enough photos of her to share with my daughters and the next generations of our family. My thought train continued and I realized my own tendency to shy away from the camera and I realized capturing our family memories truly does matter.
Recently however, my husband and I welcomed a new baby girl into the family and we wanted to make sure to give this baby the same opportunity to do a family photography session as we did with our first daughter. So, I did my hair, nursed, put on my post partum belly band, nursed and smiled for the camera…then nursed! LOL! Thankfully Sarah is a mom as well and it patient, kind and compassionate when dealing with newborns and families.
I was fortunate enough to have an amazing photographer offer to take photos of our new daughter Jasmine and our family this holiday season. First of all she is
SO AFFORDABLE!! I was amazed at the specific equipment and props she had for taking pictures of children. When I met Sarah, her excitement in capturing the joy of family and especially the sweet spirit of kids was a very apparent. I was even more impressed with her patience. My toddler refused to smile at the appropriate time and Sarah took it all in stride waiting patiently to capture the moment as it came.
Sarah’s portable studio, lighting and props were INCREDIBLE! She brought drawers of wraps and headbands and necklaces and props. She had specific seating and padding and seats for our newborn to ensure comfort and that the baby could be positioned for the best photo opportunity. I could go on and on about how impressed I was but truly, the pictures speak for themselves as her talents even made this sleep deprived new mom excited!
The number one thing that differentiates myself from other photographers is the connection I make with each and every one of my clients. I want to get to know you and make you feel comfortable. I want to create a bond that lasts a lifetime. This is such an amazing and intimate time for parents. As a mom, I know first hand what a blur the first couple of weeks home with baby can be and that’s why I love this time so much. I want to capture it so that parents can look back and actually have memories of it!
A few words from Capture the Bliss Photographer Sarah:
“Unfortunately a lot of the time, professional photography service just isn’t affordable for everyone. Most newborn photographers charge a sitting fee for their newborn sessions. These sitting fees cost upwards of $250-$350 and do not include a single photo. Once a session is complete, the photographer will edit the photos and then have a sales meeting for the client to pick out what images they would like to order. This means even more money spent by the client and a limited number of images they can afford.
I just don’t believe in this.
I provide a 2-3 hour newborn session in the comfort of my client’s home and bring along my portable studio and props. A disc with all of the edited photos is provided with a print release. Why should a parent have to decide which photo is best when all of the work has already gone in to taking and editing the photos? Every edited photo should be theirs. I also include a natural photo session with baby within the home. This means the parents and siblings can take part in the session so everyone is captured during this time.
