Turn on the Red Light

Turn on the Red Light

use a red light at nightWhen my husband was in Boot Camp the Drill Sergeants would do bed checks to make sure that everyone was accounted for. They would use a flashlight with a red light in it, then they would shine it right on their faces.

When James was first born he would ALWAYS poop in the middle of the nigh it wouldn’t always wake him up, but he would get a rash if he was in a poopy diaper for to long, so he needed to be changed! I tried to use the hall light and just crack the door, a nightlight wasn’t enough for me, and having to turn on any light to change him would wake him up all the way, and then he would want to play for the next 2 hours. {which really isn’t that fun at 1am}

So my husband suggested that I put a lamp with a red lightbulb next to his bed. I was amazed at the first time that I used it. I was able to see everything that I was doing and get James cleaned up, fed and put back to bed all with him still having sleepy eyes.

A red lightbulb really gives a lot of light, and makes it easy to change diapers, nurse, give a bottle, and even read {as long as the fount was not in  a red color} I have used this with all my babies, it makes the midnight feedings a little more bearable…. and because I haven’t been totally woken up by the bright lights of the house, I am able to go back to sleep rather quickly

{this would even make a great baby shower gift}
