The Key To Planning For The Life of Your Dreams

Did you know finances is one of the main reasons for divorce?
What if couples actually sat down to discuss a financial plan and path for success?

I decided to test the theory last night.  I have to admit I was a little nervous to go over everything with my husband from my insane Starbucks addiction to the date night costs.  But I was surprised by what we discovered together.

The famous Tony Robbins always says success leaves clues.  All of the couple I admire the most do vision boards.  I also know that couples that grow together stay together, so it just seemed like a good idea as we head into 2016 to get a family plan mapped out.

FocusedHumbleHustle_largeFirst I did my own vision board.  I know that to be fulfilled in my family life, I need to be happy myself.  I opened a power point document and started to pull images and quotes and thoughts of what I wanted this upcoming year to look like.  I post this every year on my bathroom mirror to wake up to every day!

Once I had my own goals completed, I thought about my kids.  How can I help them reach milestones and grow to their full potential if I don’t have a vision?  I asked my 3 year old what she wanted to do in the next year.  Then I checked on what my toddler’s milestones would be.

Then I sat down with my husband and we discussed:
1.  Our business goals
2.  Our marriage goals
3.  Our family trips
4.  Our income versus budget goals.  We looked over bank statements to see what our average expenditures were and if we needed to adjust anything to be more fiscally responsible.

It’s a little daunting to see that I need to run a half marathon in under 2 hours, it pushed me time wise to get to two mommy and me classes a week on top of running two businesses. But you know what?  It feels really good to  work towards a goal and to have those goals written down.

By the end of the night, we had a plan for an amazing 2016.
We were on the same page.
My husband and I are usually running a million miles a minute with businesses, kids, extra curricular activities- and one thing I know for sure….

not growing apart towards separate goals.  I like saving all of our yearly vision boards to show our girls the power of making goals and setting out on a path to achieve them.
Fail to prepare…Prepare to Fail.  Bring on 2016! WE ARE READY!
