I love learning how to make life easier and happier. I asked an amazing mom friend of mine and owner of Green Girl Groceries Delivery Service for some tips!
When I shop on a weekend, I like to buy ingredients that will make quick, easy and healthy dinners for my family through the week.
Here are some shopping tips –
Buy meats that cook quickly – chicken thighs and breasts, pork chops, shrimp, salmon, and of course, lean ground meats – turkey, chicken and beef.
Easy veggies that don’t require much prep include mushrooms, zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, spinach, corn on the cob, regular and sweet potatoes.
My staple fresh ingredients are onions and garlic, and these fresh herbs – Italian parsley, cilantro and green onions.
Keep your pantry stocked with olive oil, brown rice, whole grain pasta, quinoa, low sodium chicken stock, jarred tomato sauce (marinara), canned beans and panko bread crumbs. Don’t forget a variety of dried spices (the basics for us are Italian blend, cumin, thyme, garlic powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and paprika) to keep those flavor combos interesting.
MOM TIP – If your kid is a picky eater, try to always have at least one component of the meal be something that they love and will eat. Condiments can also be a great help – in my house, one kid loves ketchup and the other, Parmesan cheese. If I put these on a veggie that they are unwilling to try, chances are high that they will taste it (and like it!).
