Does A Doula Really Make Giving Birth Easier?

Does A Doula Really Make Giving Birth Easier?

Before I had kids I had absolutely no idea what a doula was…
Now two babies later, I cannot imagine giving birth with out one by my side!  Having a doula at our birth allowed my husband and I to enjoy the experience of birth together.  During our first birth, our doula was there, helping me to relax, assisting me to get in to birth positions to enable an easier labor, massaging my back and acting as my personal sidekick to encourage me that I AM A POWERFUL WOMAN!  Hiring a doula was one of the smartest things I ever did to have the birth experience that I desired.

Right before I went into birth with my second baby a few weeks ago, I had the immense pleasure to talk to Brianne, an incredibly knowledgable and loving doula.  Her words allowed me to relax and embrace my birth and I wanted to connect her to all of our moms.  Enjoy!

From Brianne, Founder of Little Miracles Birth Doula Services- “A doula is a trained professional who provides non-judgemental emotional, physical, and informational support to a mother and her family starting at conception through the post partum period and beyond.

The word doula comes from the Ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves” and that is exactly what we are. We always say a doula is someone you did not know you needed until after you have had one then you wouldn’t birth without one ever again. A doula is like a Mary Poppins for pregnancy and birth in that we have a bag of tricks that never ends to help you get through your birth and the time before and after that much easier. A doula can be a huge necessity in order to bring baby

A doulas purpose is to help you have your birth your way and to educate you on your options. Pregnancy, birth, and beyond is a journey and it should not be traveled alone, this is where a doula comes into play to travel along side you to make the journey as smooth sailing as possible. The goal of a doula is to ensure the mother and her partner feel safe and confident before, during, and after birth.

I became a doula after having my son and having a doula myself. From that day forward I knew no women should ever go without a doula no matter what birth they have. I have such a passion for all things pregnancy, birth, and families especially helping bring babies into the world just a little easier whether be in the delivery room or during the post partum period.

doulaI became a bereavement doula after the loss during pregnancy of our two beautiful daughters. I wanted no mom or family to ever have to go through something like this, but I know I can’t prevent miscarriage still birth and infant loss. I decided at least then no mom/family should go through this alone.”

Here at we are on a mission to connect YOU with caring providers just like Brianne who want to help make motherhood easier.
