But eventually, someone gets hungry. Regardless of the excitement, we have to eat, right? I have teenagers
, so they’re hungry every 10 minutes. And we all want something delicious because it’s Christmas, but we don’t want to be in the kitchen cooking because we’ll miss out on watching the kids open their gifts.
Wouldn’t it be lovely if there was a Christmas fairy who would sweep into our home on Christmas morning and whip up an amazing breakfast and then do the dishes. Unfortunately that fairy only exists in the minds of tired mothers
. But never fear! Below are some ideas that are almost as good as the Christmas fairy.
I have several breakfast dishes that I prepare the morning of Christmas Eve. They’re prepped and put in the fridge the day before and then warmed on Christmas morning while we open presents. These are my family’s favorite holiday breakfast meals and I hope they’ll become yours as well!
1 pound Jimmy Dean Regular Sausage
1 dozen eggs
Your favorite bread
1 cup of your favorite cheese
1 cup of milk
Salt and Pepper
- Spray a 9×13 pan with Pam or butter to prevent sticking.
- Line the bottom of the pan with your favorite bread. I use crescent rolls, but you could use sourdough bread, croissants or regular bread. If you want it to be even more savory, butter the bread.
- Cook one pound of Jimmy Dean Regular Sausage, drain and spread evenly on top of the bread.
- Beat one dozen eggs, add one cup of milk and salt and pepper. Pour on top of sausage.
- Sprinkle your favorite shredded cheese on top. I use cheddar, but you could whatever your family likes.
- Cover with foil and place in the fridge until the morning.
- Bake at 350 degrees covered with foil for 45 minutes and then remove the foil for the last 15 minutes. Cut and enjoy!
This is the easiest recipe on the planet and my family goes nuts for it. And these taste even better the next day, so I make a batch and a half so that we’ll have left overs.
One pound of Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage
2 cups of Bisquick
1 package of sharp cheddar
- Mix all 3 ingredients together with your hands. Yes it’s gross, but no pain, no gain.
- Roll the sausage balls into 1 1/2 inch balls and make at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
- I cook them the day before and then warm them in the oven.

Oh, Monkey Bread, how I love you. This is a gooey, sweet treat that is sure to make your children even more hyper on Christmas morning. You can find the recipe for Monkey Bread on most cans of biscuits, but I’ll lay it out for you here. Make sure you have a Bundt Pan
2 cans of Pillsbury Homestyle Biscuits
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup firmly brown sugar
3/4 cup of butter, softened
- Pour the sugar and cinnamon in a storage bag and shake together.
- Cut biscuit into quarters
- Add the biscuit pieces to the sugar/cinnamon mix, shake well and add to greased Bundt Pan pan.
- In a small bowl, combine the butter and brown sugar and pour over the biscuit pieces.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
- Let the pan cool for 10 minutes and then turn upside down onto a plate.
I cook the Monkey Bread the day before and warm in the oven on Christmas morning.
This is the Bundt pan I use and I love it!
I know the recipes I’ve given you are not the healthiest, so to ease your mom guilt, make this yummy fruit salad to help your kids get their fruit for the day. This Fruit Salad is super easy and so delicious.
1 pound of strawberries
1/2 pint of blueberries
1/2 pint of raspberries
1/2 pineapple, cubed
2 tablespoons of instant vanilla pudding mix (shhhhhh….this is fine. It’s still healthy)
Mix together Christmas morning or the night before….it’s really good after it’s been sitting overnight.
French Toast Casserole
If you have a picky eater who doesn’t like meat, this French Toast Casserole is a sure winner.
One loaf of Pepperidge Farm Bread. The sourdough is delicious for this recipe.
2 cups milk
1/2 cups of heavy cream
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
- Cut the bread into cubes and put in a greased 9×13 pan.
- Mix the above ingredients, pour over bread, cover with plastic wrap and put in fridge overnight.
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp of salt
1/2 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
- Mix all the above ingredients except the butter in a small bowl.
- Cut butter into the mixture until it’s crumbly and place in a ziploc bag in the fridge overnight.
In the morning, sprinkle the flour mixture over the bread and bake at 350 for 45 minutes to an hour.
Now, if you don’t want to cook or don’t have time, I do have one little cheat for you. There is a company called The Gingerbread House
and they make a gourmet nut roll that is absolutely delicious. It is shipped to your home and you can either cook it right away or freeze it and cook it Christmas morning.
Don’t be surprised if you decide to make it right away though, because the second you open the box, you’ll want to eat it. The sweet, mapley smell of this nut roll is so good, my boys insisted that we make it the day it was delivered!

A couple of other tips to make Christmas morning special, but easy on you:
- Coffee coffee coffee. Even on Christmas morning, nothing happens until mama has her coffee. So get out the Keurig or set the coffee the night before. We tell our kids they cannot come out for presents until the coffee is ready!
- Paper Plates.Beau-Coup is my go-to online party store (because I hate to go into stores during Christmas) and they have the cutest Christmas plates and napkins. They’ll look festive and you won’t have to do dishes. I buy these scalloped plates. They look like a candy cane!
